I was on the Ventura Pier in the late 80's during a big swell. The next day we checked the surf and most of the pier was gone. What was the date when the storm took the pier?

Ventura Pier prone to beatings by storm waves

Thanks Nate. The Ventura pier has been damaged by storms several times in recent history. The most damage caused around the time you're talking about ocurred on January 23,1986. About 10 pilings were knocked loose, but the pier was still standing.

It was also damaged in January 1983 when it lost several pilings, and it just recently lost another piling on January 19, 2010.

But the worst damage was on December 13, 1995 when waves close to 20 feet ripped off over 400 feet of the pier.
