tidal wave

Did a tidal wave hit the Ventura coast coming to about the top of the coastal bluffs - c. 30 - 40 feet? In what year? What caused it?

My grandmother who lived in Ventura c. late 1890's to the early 1900"s said it occurred before she moved to your great city.

Any information on the event would be greatly appreciated.
