Tandem Bicycles and the Beach:
How romantic is that?

Cruising along on tandem bicycles or their 4-wheel bicycle cousins is a great way to take advantage of Ventura’s year-round mild climate as you peddle along side the shoreline soaking up the sights and the fresh ocean air.

For first-time riders, tandem bikes take some getting used to, but you should handle it well after simple instruction. Just remember to go into the turns carefully because the weight of the bike handles differently then your conventional beach cruiser.

The rider in the front steers the bike while the rider in the back provides the motor power (of course, the main advantage the back rider has is that he or she can sing songs along the way while the front rider is unable to get away, no matter how fast they peddle!).

Whether it's tandem bicycles, 4-wheelers or beach cruisers, cycling adds fun to romantic weekend getaways. It’s also a unique way to explore Ventura’s scenic coastline with a little exercise thrown in. There are convenient rentals sites within an easy walk of all the downtown and coastal midtown hotels (see the end of this page). Each rental site offers trail maps, locks and helmets.

Where to rent?

Each rental site is competitive in price and you can rent by the hour, half-day or full day. In addition, most sites offer anything from kayaks and boogie boards, to beach cruisers and 4-wheeled and tandem bikes. Bicycle sizing is available so be sure to let the rental agent know what feels best for you. All rental sites provide quality service and know their stuff so choosing the right one is simply a matter of location convenience.

Ventura Bike Depot - A short walk from the Clock Tower Inn. This is a better starting point for tandem bicycles than for 4-wheeled bicycles - lumbering back up the path from the beach on a 4-wheeler isn't the best use of your rental time.
