Rexall Drug Store in Ventura

by Stephanie

Here's the picture of my Dad's drugstore at California & Main. I'm not sure when it was taken but he bought the store around 1947/48. I'm including a shot of the inside and can send a picture of the fountain when it was restored years later.

I found some information on the early druggist Robert Forth that another person mentioned.
He married Caroline L BARNETT Sept 15, 1883. I couldn't find Caroline on the Ventura death index but Robert Forth passed away October 11, 1917.

Early Druggist - Robert Forth
by: Eleanor Lea (Forth)

The early druggist in San Buenaventura was my great-uncle, Robert William Forth, the eldest brother of my grandfather, Charles Edward Forth, also a druggist who emigrated to Natal, South Africa. Their father was a druggist in Tynemouth, Northumberland, England.

Robert William and Carrie (Barnett)had two sons, Robert Ogilvie Forth and Percy Myron Forth. Robert William Forth died in May, 1888. Carrie remarried and left the two Forth boys with her mother, Sarah R Barnett as shown in the 1890 and 1900 Census records. The Robert Forth who died on 12 October, 1917, was Robert Ogilvie Forth. Percy Myron Forth moved on and eventually died in Stockton in 1946.

My sister and I received amazingly generous help from Stephanie Pendleton of Ventura who sent us copies of records and of articles in 'The Ventura Daily Free Press' of 25-31 May 1888 and of 13 October 1917. The other records were found on Ancestry.com.

Rexall Drug Store
by: Dorothy Vervoon Douglas

I worked at Franz & Franz Rexall Drug Store in 1946-47. The pharmacist was Mr Harriman who was Erle Stanley Gardner's good friend. He introduced me to Mr Gardner, a nice memory for a 17 year-old. Mrs Franz was also a pharmacist.

lunch counter?
by: KL

Didn't Rexall Drug Store have a lunch counter? I thought I remembered getting the BEST Mexican food there as a teen in the late '50's.
