Over 200 came from across Ventura County--workers and professionals, veterans and retirees, elected officials and young parents, and students and graduates from UC Santa Barbara to Cal Lutheran University -- to bring their power and voices to the Ventura People’s Climate March on Sunday from Ventura City Hall to the Ventura Pier on September 21.
Sponsored by Ventura350 with individuals from several social and climate organizations, the march was organized in solidarity with the People’s Climate March in NYC to greet world leaders coming to the Emergency Climate Summit on Tuesday. Approximately 2500 similar events were held throughout the US and hundreds more in 165 other countries.
At 8:30 am, march organizers met at Ventura City Corps and dozens gathered for breakfast while the live-stream of 400,000 people marching in Manhattan from 93rd Street and Central Park West to 34th Street and 11th Avenue and the local march was blessed by Chumash spiritual leader Peuyoko Perez.
