There was a group of native Chumash who joined the exodus from Ventura with the fleeing Franciscan Padres of the mission in 1812, to what would become Casitas Springs. Relocating to higher ground to avoid the tidal waves of that year, this would've added to the local villages near the present day dam and Cañada Larga.
