Historic bus stations?

by Stephen Bryne

Where were the bus stations, such as Trailways or Greyhound, in downtown Ventura? Are the buildings still extant? Why is there no bus station now?

From Buses to Surf Boards...

Greyhound bust station now Surf Shop

Thanks for the question Stephen. For 40 years there was a Greyhound Bus Station in downtown Ventura at the corner of Thompson and Palm. The terminal was shut down on Feb 28, 2008 because it was no longer profitable. The building is still there and is now a Surf Shop.

Of course, the closest interstate bus terminal is now the Oxnard Transportation Center.

Correction to Bus Depot Article
by: Sandra Sanders

The old Greyhound depot was at California and Santa Clara in what was originally a service station, built in the 20's, which had auto repair bays. The bus station complex was composed of a nice waiting room, a luggage room, and a couple of small businesses. The complex is still standing; it was abandoned by Greyhound in the 90's when the buses got to big to negotiate the semi-cirular driveway. The subsequent location at Thompson and Palm is the one described and pictured in the article.
