Since we had never been to the islands before, we opted for a day trip to Santa Cruz Island and a guided hike to Prisoner's Harbor. This hike is relatively strenuous and not recommended for everyone.

We had a great time and enjoyed the interpretive aspect that came courtesy of our guide Luke. He told us a variety of facts about the Chumash Indian history, local flora and fauna and even a Disney Story.

On our hike we saw 2 species that only exist on the Channel Islands, the Island Fox and the Island Scrub Jay.

On the way over to the island, we saw a huge pod of bottle nose dolphins and caught a glimpse of a whale.

During our hike, we saw a pod of killer whales right off shore so all in all it was a full day.

The trip was way beyond our expectations and we're looking forward to taking a kayaking tour on Santa Cruz, (we've already purchased our tickets).
