Cars recently uncovered at the beach

Can you explain more about the cars and the brick road that have been uncovered at the beach? These pictures were taken at the Ventura beach, left of the hotel and pier. We saw parts from at least 5 cars, old with wooden wheels. At first it looks like they washed up there but the more we looked it seems like they sank there.
