Nice picture but how?
by: Anonymous

Where was the picture taken from? Ventura? If so, can you please tell me how you seen it since it's 18 miles away and the it should not be able to be seen due to the curvature of the earth. This means the Pythagorean formula is wrong or we have been lied to.

Arch Rock is visible from Ventura
by: Michael

Actually, on real clear days I've seen Arch rock from Ventura several times at much lower elevations than Grant Park, so the Pythagorean formula is still intact!

Arch Rock Oddity
by: An older Ventura resident

Long time Ventura residents are aware of this oddity, people seldom think of the implications. You can see Arch Rock from not only Grant Park, but also from Poli Street on mildly foggy days, because from those heights you can see "over" the layer of fog. But on clear days (no layer of fog) you can see Arch rock standing at the ocean's edge on Ventura Beach. From Ventura Beach to Arch Rock is more than 17 miles, as per Google Earth. Rounding all numbers downward, so as nobody can complain I'm stretching the truth, the earth should drop by 192 feet due to its curvature. Arch Rock, which is claimed to be 40 feet high, "should" be 152 feet below the horizon. But it is not. Each person should decide for themselves what this may mean to them.
