Crowne Plaza at Ventura Beach rightfully claims the boasting rights of being the only large beachfront hotel in Ventura. The best feature, however, is that each room has its own balcony with an Ocean View. You'll find the normal amenities as you would with any large hotel. While the hotel may not have the same charm as some of the local inns, it well makes up for it with the convenience of a pool, on-site restaurant, gym, room service and affordable vacation packages.

Oh, and did I mention that the beach is a mere few steps from the front door? That said, be sure to ask for the rooms nearest to the beach (as opposed to the 101 freeway) for the best views and sounds of the surf.

Tip: For an amazing panoramic view of Ventura take the elevator ride up to the “Top of the Harbor” Ballroom. This used to be one of the few revolving restaurants in California. Sorry, it doesn’t revolve anymore, but it’s still one the best places for an eye-popping view of Ventura and the breathtaking Pacific Ocean.

The C-Street promenade located at the base of the hotel provides the perfect opportunity for a romantic stroll along the water front. On summer weekends this area is usually a buzz with craft fairs and other events. The surfers, however, hang out here for the “righteous waves.” Walk West past the hotel towards the mouth of Ventura River to enjoy watching surfers and kite surfers hone their skills. The path is also a haven for joggers, walkers and bicyclists alike. You may even get lucky and see dolphins swimming past as you stroll on hand-in-hand.
